2018 Internship - Beef Cattle Management on Grass

We are in search of an intern with a desire and willingness to learn in addition to taking pride in their work. Must be good at communicating and pay attention to detail. This position is best suited for someone specifically interested in native rangeland management and beef cattle management on grass.

We run a 4,000 acre ranch in central ND with two ranch headquarters. This position would be mainly at our Washburn, ND ranch location with some work at the Beulah, ND ranch. We calve out 180 cows in May to late June, run 200 yearling grass calves and take in around 250 custom grazing cattle. We use holistic planning as the foundation to build and improve our ranch. We intensely manage the land in hope to build a profitable ranch. We integrate practices such as bale grazing, winter grazing, and mob grazing. We have a desire to be a part of regenerative agriculture; using livestock grazing management to improve soil health.

Intern will Experience:
Rotating and checking cattle daily, build and take down temporary electric fence, monitor grass every day, putting out mineral/salt. Assist with yearly pasture monitoring, checking cattle calving on pasture, moving portable water lines and water tanks, installing water tanks, removing old fence, building new fence, helping  maintain equipment, sorting, working and doctoring cattle with low stress stockmanship, hauling cattle to slaughter, sorting and selling meat products, attending ranch tours and workshops.

After the initial training period we are hoping the intern would be able to make decisions themselves without constant supervision. We work long hard physical hours in all conditions.
